Brown sugar, rich dark chocolate, currant, full body, clean finish
This was farm owner Baudilio Hernandez first time competing in the Cup of Excellence and he took 23rd place out of thousands of samples that were submitted. Finca La Fortuna, located at 1600 meters was purchased 5 years ago and planted with only the varietal IHCAFE90. It is maintained mostly by Baudilio and his son who put extreme care and attention to detail into every step of the process. When asked what the secret to their success was he said, "The secret is to pick just ripe cherries, wash the coffee with clean water, in my case the water comes from the mountain. The drying process has to be in low temperatures and use a layer of an inch of coffee to make easier the drying process and obtain consistent coffee."
The Cup of Excellence is the most prestigious competition and award for high quality coffees. Thousands of coffees are submitted in 10 coffee growing regions to determine the highest quality being produced in each region.
